Finished!

Well, pretty much. The blade needs a little more grinding, and I might be tempted to sand back the polish a little and give it another coat…

For now at least, it’s done :)

A bit more sanding, and a few coats of beeswax done tonight.

I’ve also polished and started putting an edge on the blade.

Sgian Dubh progress - Week 2!

A bit more sanding, then I’ll be able to treat the wood, sharpen the blade and put the two together.

Also: still need to work out how to make the sheath for it :/

Had an incident with the rasp that resulted in about 5mm being chewed off the end of the handle. It should be salvageable, but I’ll see how it’s looking once it’s tidied up a bit more.

Fitted the handle a little better to the blade, and started rough shaping it tonight

I’ve rough drilled the hole for the tang of the blade.
It doesn’t sit quite right, so I’m going to have to go on an adventure to B&Q soon to find a reaaaaaaaaally small file to work away at it

The Damascus blade arrived today, so I now have the mission of trying to attach it to the handle.

Started out with a blank of pine and I’ve whittled a simple shape shape that I should be able to play about with shaping
